The Interfaith Health & Hope Coalition has partnered with the Wayne State School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, the City of Detroit Health & Wellness Promotion, the Henry Ford Health System and others in informing/advocating for improvement in pediatric immunization rates for children under 36 months in the City of Detroit.
This project has concluded two workshops and will continue throughout 2016-2017 targeting children under the age of 3 years of age in the following Detroit zip codes: 48201, 48204, 48206, 48208, 48216, 48219, 48226 and 48238. Our goal is to complete the immunization regimen (full battery of shots by 36 months) for 2,700 children.
The Coalition's role will be to help serve as a 'portal and/or connector' between faith-based organizations (FBOs) and key immunization providers in the City. We know that many of your organizations may already have vibrant social and/or health outreach ministries. This will be an excellent opportunity to work with vaccine providers to enhance and promote the work for which many of you are already engaged.
The attached document more fully describes the role(s) that "Vaccine Champions" can play. The Coalition expects to be connecting with many of you at a congregational, denominational or ecumenical level to help advance this effort. There will be many opportunities where this effort can be advanced, including health fairs and other forms of community outreach. We expect the immunizations will be available at various physical locations as well as mobile sites.
